Candy Color Sort

For some reason my 2 year old is having a hard time learning her colors.  Being the girly-girl princess she is she has pink and purple down, but the rest … not so much.  I saw this post (sweetie sort) a bit ago and thought with all the leftover Halloween candy around, we’d give it a try and make sure she can at least differentiate colors.  I used a mini muffin tin and started off with one of each color in its own spot with the rest of the package in a bowl.  I demonstrated to her what I wanted her to do … and she was good to go!

She didn’t make any mistakes and was able to say what some of the colors were.  After she completed the 1/2 of the tin that we used, she was quite insistent that we used another package to sort on that side.  I was surprised that she also was more interested in sorting than eating … and made it very clear that the m&m’s were to stay sorted and NOT eaten  … well, for awhile.  After she had given me the false sense of security of leaving her with what amounted to be 2 packages of m&m’s nicely sorted … I got busy with other things, only to come back and find the tin to be empty and her face to be full of chocolate. (sorry … didn’t get a photo of that!)

Thank you for linking to us at rainy day mum – I love the idea of using a muffin tin to do the sorting and glad that it worked. We had the same problem with the candies being eatten as well.
