So Many Ways to Play with Play Dough

This is a real (not staged) photo I took of my daughter, Honor, over a year ago.  She actually did fall asleep in play dough while playing … don’t worry I was right there observing, making sure she could breathe before I took the shot!)

Play dough is one of the things my kids LOVE to play with.  On any given day I can grab the play dough and accessories out of the craft cupboard and play dough will keep them busy for at least 30 minutes.  They are perfectly happy to play with the classic “Play-Doh” brand, a simple selection of Play-Doh accessories, and a “shape, model, and mold clay” set from Melissa & Doug.  But sometimes … we take it to the next level.

Here are some other ways we play with play dough …

Abstract Art with Straws

Christmas Cookies (good anytime of year!)…

Make Faces

just add google eyes!

Cupcakes

just add cupcake liners and candles!

Paint it! with watercolors

Honor used plain homemade playdough and applied the paint with cotton swabs.

And, for another activity, you can just simply stack up the containers!

This week

nurturestore

It’s an online playdate hosted by Nuturestore, The Imagination Tree, and Sun Hats and Wellie Boots to try something different while playing with playdough with your kids this week!  Maybe it’s making homemade playdough, trying out an new playdough recipe, or adding different elements into the dough (or the play itself!).  I’ll be posting our adventures later this week!  Why don’t you take the pledge too?!?

Thanks for sharing at the Co-Op. I especially love the playdough cupcakes and painting the playdough. Made me realize that playdough would be a great answer when my toddler asks (for the millionth time) to make cookies, and hubby and I don’t want any real cookies in the house!!

  4. Great play dough ideas! Thanks for sharing with Tuesday Tots! Pinned! :)
