The ABCs of Deb Chitwood … and this week’s Kids Co-Op linky!
When I first started blogging in July 2011 a couple of bloggers gave me some wonderful compliments and encouragement. One even started to pin my blog before I became a Pinterest addict (only a couple short months after!). This blogger was Deb Chitwood. At the time, new to blogging and not that familiar with Montessori blogs, I had no ideas she was a blogging super star and Queen of Montessori blogs with her blog, Living Montessori Now. I did notice right away that she had a blog Raising Figure Skaters … I, at one time long ago, was a competitive figure skater, so that struck a particular chord for me! The ABCs of Deb Chitwood
Age | 57 |
Beverage of Choice | Herbal tea |
Chore you Hate | Cleaning showers |
Daily Routine | I’m a night owl, so I sleep late or have a nap after an early start. I work on my blogs, writing, and social media off and on throughout the day and evening. Sometimes my husband and I go out to eat during the day. My husband works in the evening, so we spend time together starting at 10:00pm or midnight. We love to watch television series or movies on DVD. My schedule totally changes when we visit our kids/kids-in-love or they visit us. Then we spend a lot of family time (my favorite thing) throughout the day and evening. |
Essential start of the day | Brushing my teeth |
Favorite Color | pink |
Favorite Game | My favorite games are cooperative games, especially educational cooperative games. |
Height | 5’4” |
favorite Ice Cream flavor | Häagen-Dazs chocolate! |
Beloved piece of Jewelry | My wedding ring (especially my new one, which was a gift from my husband on our 30th anniversary in 2005) |
Kids (names & ages) | Will – 27, Christina – 22 |
Where do you Live | Colorado Springs, Colorado |
Favorite Movie(s) | L.A. Story with Steve Martin and Midnight in Paris |
Nickname | Deb (When I lived in England for a year and a half it was Debs, the British version, since hardly anyone could understand what I was saying when I introduced myself as Deb!) |
Occupation | Writer/Blogger (former Montessori teacher and homeschooler) |
Pet Peeve | The response “whatever” (just sounds too dismissive and uncaring). |
favorite Quote | “It’s all about the journey, not the outcome.” – Carl Lewis. My kids were international competitive figure skaters, and we emphasized that quote a lot both for athletics and life in general. |
Right or left-handed | Right-handed |
Siblings | Two brothers and two sisters. I’m the second oldest. |
Time it takes to get ready | 30 minutes |
Unusual Fact | I grew up on a farm in northeast South Dakota, 40 miles from the original Little House on the Prairie. Even though I was a farm girl, I’ve been a vegetarian for 38 years. |
Best Vacation | Turin, Italy, for the 2010 World Figure Skating Championships where my daughter was an ice-dance competitor representing Great Britain. (The food in Italy really is as good as they say it is!) |
What makes you late | Traffic, although I’m typically on time. |
Xrays you’ve had | Teeth, knee because of a roller-skating accident (no broken bones), and back for scoliosis. |
Yummy food that you make | Vegan nut loaf (tastes much better than it sounds!) and healthy (relatively) gluten-free chocolate chip cookies. |
favorite Zoo animal | Monkey |

Two of my kids began their early education at Montessori–such wonderful memories of our family’s time spent there. Sometimes my son and daughter will sing “the continent song” to help them recall all seven continents (they’re 16 and 20 now:)
Debs is a wonderful educator, blogger and supporter. She is the Queen of Montessori. I really like the Montessori methods for young children and think it works very well for children with special needs.
Thanks for featuring me in your awesome ABC series … and thanks so much for your very sweet introduction, Laura! You made my day! How awesome that you were a competitive figure skater! 🙂
