PlayDrMom’s Favorite Fairy Books & Movies

Since we’re all about fairies this week, I figured I’d share some our favorite fairy books & movies …

Books

Fairy Tales, by e.e. cummings (a collection of four whimsical stories)
Mary Englelbreit’s Fairy Tales (beautifully illustrated classic tales)
Alice the Fairy, by David Shannon (a fun story about a fairy-in-training)
The Very Fairy Princess, by Julie Andrews & Emma Walton Hamilton (so many wonderful lines in this book about every girls inner fairy princess … “You just have to let your SPARKLE out!”)
Talented Tink and Terrific Terence, by Andrea Posner-Sanchez (2 books in one that overview parts from the movie, TinkerBell and the Lost Treasure)
A Perfect Match, by Kitty Richards (gives an overview of the movie, TinkerBell: Secret of the Wings)
Good Night, Fairies, by Kathleen Hague (a sweet bedtime story for a little one curious about fairies; amazing illustrations)
The Fairies’ Ring: A Book of Fairy Stories and Poems, collected and adapted by Jane Yolen (a lovely collection of fairy literature, great for older children)

Movies

Fairy Tale: A True Story (1997) loosely based on a early 20th century controversy over a photograph hoax the movie delves into the world of wonder and our desire to believe.
TinkerBell (2008) the first in the series of the “updated” version of the familiar character from Peter Pan.
TinkerBell and the Lost Treasure (2009) TinkerBell is given the task of making a one-of-a-kind scepter for the autumn festival and things don’t go as planned … but with a little help from her friends, Tink gets to fix things even better than she could imagine.
TinkerBell and the Great Fairy Rescue (2010) This one is probably my daughter’s favorite. Tink is allured by a little house made by a young girl … and a magical friendship is born.
Secret of the Wings (2012) TinkerBell can’t resist exploring the winter world and finds much more than ice and cold weather
