PlayDrMom’s 2012 Summer Bucket List

The kids still have a couple weeks of school left.  Summer solstice isn’t until June 20.  But this weekend, this long holiday weekend … I believe to be the START OF SUMMER!

Last summer was the first summer our family had a bucket list.  I really enjoyed creating it … and we had even more fun trying to experience each of the 50 things on the list.  So, here’s the revised 2012 version of our Summer Bucket List to start the sunshine season right!

  1. Spend lots of time at the Troy Aquatic Center
  2. Spend lots of time in the back yard
  3. Teach Henry how to ride a bicycle
  4. Build our play structure and play house
  5. Get our Basketball Hoop up … and play!
  6. Make a waterwall outside
  7. Create an outside music area
  8. Build a Marble Run
  9. Make a “splash park” in our back yard
  10. See fireworks
  11. Go to Cedar Point with Henry
  12. Have a lemonade stand
  13. Make ice paint (again!)
  14. Play every “board” game we own
  15. Read as many of our children’s books as we can
  16. Spend a week on Tawas Bay
  17. Dodge Park Beach
  18. Play mini golf
  19. Catch a firefly
  20. Spend a day at the Detroit Zoo
  21. Go to Waterford Oaks splash park
  22. Go kayaking
  23. Go on a family bike ride
  24. Make our own sidewalk fizzy paint
  25. Spend a day at Kensington splash park and beach
  26. Go to Hess-Hathaway Park
  27. Go to Beverly Park
  28. Spend a day in downtown Birmingham
  29. Spend a day in downtown Rochester
  30. Get ice cream in our pjs
  31. Have Henry participate in a summer reading challenge at the library
  32. play at Waterford Oaks playground
  33. Go to the Birmingham fair
  34. Go to the hot air balloon festival in Howell
  35. Go to a Wet-n-Wild Wednesday in Rochester Hills
  36. Have an “adults only” movie &/or game night with friends
  37. Clean out the garage … include area for easy access to outside toys
  38. Clean up the basement … create play area, including building toy, puppet theatre, and craft storage areas
  39. Go to a Tiger’s Game
  40. Go to the Cranbrook Science Center
  41. Spend the day in downtown Northville
  42. Play at Marshbank park
  43. Spend a day in Detroit … Riverwalk and the Heidelburg project
  44. Take the kids to the Hands On Museum in A2
  45. Spend a day in East Lansing
  46. Go to the Detroit Science Center
  47. Go berry picking
  48. Have a puppet show outside
  49. Take advantage of our free bowling passes
  50. Catch up on my blog posts

    Now that we are in August I’m confident that I made this list WAY too long. We have completed # 5, 7, 10, 12, 18, 25, 33, and 29. Numbers 1, 2, 4, 14, 31, 49, and 50 are works in progress! And we missed 34, 35, and 46.
