Back to School Books for Kids

It’s that time of year again!  BACK TO SCHOOL!!!  Here are some of my favorite back to school books that I read with my own kids and recommend to clients (especially if they are starting school for the first time or going to a new school)!

  • What Teachers Can’t Do - by Douglas Wood
  • David Goes to School - by David Shannon
  • The Kissing Hand - by Audrey Penn (great for separation anxiety)
  • Little Miss Spider Sunny Patch School – by David Kirk
  • If You Take a Mouse to School – by Laura Numeroff
  • Lily’s Plastic Purple Purse – by Kevin Henkes
  • The Best Teacher Ever – by Mercer Mayer
  • Ready for Kindergarten, Stinky Face? – by Lisa McCourt

Here’s some other posts on Back to School books you might want to check out!

  1. Have you seen Mouse’s First Day of School by Lauren Thompson? I use it each year. A mouse sneaks into a backpack and makes all kinds of discoveries in a classroom. I use it as an interactive way to check in with the kiddos by asking if they discovered the same things that mouse did. Then I have a Folkmanis white mouse puppet I named Blanca who visits, though she is very shy, she shares her first day of preschool by whispering in my ear. The kids love it!! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=265569623554578&set=pb.170943436350531.-2207520000.1346762430&type=1&theater Here’s a photo of Blanca whispering to me.
