Painting ROCKS!

One early evening my kids and the neighborhood kids (we’re very lucky to have 2 families with kids around the same age right next door and behind us) were all playing in our combined backyards.  The seemed ready for a new activity … so I asked them if they wanted to paint our rocks.  Some of the kids were in disbelief … “The actual rocks? … Not paper on the rocks? … On the rocks? … With real paint?”  Yes, the actual rocks … with real (washable) paint … right on the real rocks.  PAINTING ROCKS!

They used all the paint!  Why wouldn’t they?!

I love how they used tons of different painting techniques just because they had free reign for creativity.  They used brushes, combs, dripping, pouring, & splatting.  It was a wonderful cooperative project that the 7 kids involved took pride in!

I think this looks much prettier than plain rocks. We have some rocks in our yard and I love this idea. Pinning it so I can remember to do it.

Let me list the reasons I love this: the kids had a huge canvas to paint; they had freedom to create; they were working together; they were outside. Thanks for sharing at the Sunday Showcase! I’ve pinned this to our feature board. 🙂
